On why Nabokov decides upon a pedophile.
Because you cannot explain the book as being the story about a man seducing his twelve-year old stepdaughter and not come off as a simplistic dimwit.

A simplistic dimwit? Wow. If this isn't, at the heart of things, a story about a man seducing his twelve year old step daughter then what is the storyline? I realize that this story is a poetic masterpiece. I don't feel that you have give a good enough answer. What makes a pedophile better than just a plain murder or a stalker or vampire?
